About Me
Hi friend! Take a seat, pour a tall glass of your favorite caffeinated or alcoholic beverage, and let me share my story with you.
My hope in sharing my life online is to have a digital memory book of all the fun moments and activities I share with my daughter. I am also using this blog as an outlet to reach other Mamas who share my interests of drowning myself in coffee, fun DIY and art projects (for both toddlers and adults!), and a place where I can scream (TYPE IN CAPS) at the top of my lungs when I’ve cleaned one too many blowouts/crayon on the walls/ripped books/dog boogers/miscellaneous mystery stains on clothes, fought for hours with my daughter over a nap that would only last 30 minutes, and nursed all night long with a snoring husband next to me only to be expected to plaster a smile on the next morning and go to a kid’s birthday party.
My blog title may be just slightly misleading...yes, I am a Mom, but I am also a woman with interests outside of Daniel Tiger and Caspar Babypants. I’m a 29 year old living in Wisconsin living my best life (YOLO) as a Stay at Home Mom. Yas kween *strikes a cool mom pose*. Okay, to be honest I’m a dorky Mom with dad jokes. I probably scroll social media a bit much, pin tons of craft ideas on Pinterest that never get done, swear a bit, die laughing over inappropriate memes and fart jokes, but I’m a loyal friend who is a great listener and is completely honest, raw, authentic and can be there to provide nonjudgmental friendship as we travel this winding road of Motherhood.
Oh and I should mention, I suppose, in another life I had other skills other than the mastery of diaper changes and packing a diaper bag in 5 seconds flat. I graduated from Marquette University with a BA in Sociology and minor in Women and Gender Studies. I had various occupations, my most recent and notable were for a Non-profit, Women and Children’s Horizons Inc., as a legal advocate for victims of domestic and sexual abuse and at a Charter School as an Intervention Specialist aka a glorified technology tutor of sorts.
My toddler is now 1 year (16 months if we want to get technical) and I am loving this stage of life. Being a stay at home mom isn’t all butterflies and unicorns pooping rainbows. It’s hard work. Like REAL damn hard. My daughter is my toughest boss to date and she doesn’t like to give me many breaks. I am so grateful for every hardship and obstacle I’ve faced as a Mom because just a couple years ago I faced a horrible reality.
I’ve been with my husband since we were 16, he is my high school sweetheart and best friend. We were married in October 2015 and I knew becoming a mom was really important to me. We got pregnant early 2016, but shortly after testing positive I began bleeding. My first miscarriage. Devastating. A nightmare. I’ve always dealt with anxiety and had an experience with depression, but this time in my life was like nothing I’ve experienced before. To top it off, a short two months later I had a second miscarriage.
I’ll tell the long story another time, but to keep it short...after testing with a fertility clinic, acupuncture, and a prescription of progesterone suppositories I tested positive and gave birth to my rainbow baby, Freya Elaine on July 5th, 2017. My pregnancy wasn’t easy just as many pregnancies after losses. I’ll share that story in another post because this ‘About Me’ is quickly becoming a novel and that beverage of yours is probably almost gone and it’s time for you to down another glass before naptime is over!
Thanks for visiting and I hope this blog can give you some laughs/hope/feelings of solidarity!
Love,
Karissa + Freya
